Christopher’s Haven manages 4 fully-furnished and equipped apartments and a private community recreation area known as “The Loft” at 131 Ponce de Leon Ave NE in Atlanta. Our “community” of apartments and The Loft are located on the fourth floor of the high-rise residential building located across the street from The Emory Proton Center and in close proximity to other area medical centers. Out-of-town families with a child actively receiving outpatient care for cancer at a local medical center are eligible to stay at Christopher’s Haven. Siblings are an important part of the Christopher’s Haven community. Our staff ensures the siblings of the children receiving treatment are included in any program offered at Christopher’s Haven.
We are located at 131 Ponce de Leon Ave NE in Atlanta GA, directly across the street from The Emory Proton Center. If your child is scheduled to receive outpatient cancer treatment at a local Atlanta children’s hospital, you are eligible to stay with us. The minimum stay at Christopher’s Haven is four weeks, during which time your child must actively be receiving outpatient cancer care in Atlanta. Most stays, however, typically last between six to eight weeks.
We have a studio apartment, one bedroom apartments and a two bedroom apartment. We will not guarantee any specific apartment to a family. The apartments are first come first serve rotation. We do our best to give larger families the one bedroom apartments. We are not always able to accommodate everyone. Each apartment is fully furnished with a queen, twin, and pullout bed as well as a smart television and Wi-Fi. There is a fully equipped kitchen with a full size refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster, dishes, pots, pans and utensils. Each apartment has a full bathroom and a washer and dryer. The apartments are also furnished with blankets/linens and towels.
The Loft is utilized to provide programming for children undergoing treatment, siblings and parents. Activities coordinated primarily by volunteers, include massage therapy, pet therapy arts & crafts, movie nights, birthday and holiday celebrations, excursions to local attractions and tickets to local sporting events. We have meals donated to us from Local non-profits and restaurants. When a child is finished with their treatment they usually ring a bell at the hospital signifying their accomplishment. We have a big “ Bell Ringing Party” to celebrate them and the entire family.
Siblings are an important part of the Christopher’s Haven community. Our staff ensures the siblings of the child receiving treatment are included in events and programs. Activities include summer camps, excursions, sporting events tickets and other experiences. All siblings are part of any program or activity offered at Christopher’s Haven.
